hope is the feeling you have that the feeling you have isn't permanent (jean kerr)....hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense regardless of how it turns out (vaclav havel)....now, Lord, what do i look for? my hope is in you (ps39:7).

today was one of those days where everything that could have gone wrong actually did go wrong. my day began with a poorly-aimed slap at the snooze button, turning the alarm off in the process. i slept through my last day of class. i had lunch with an old friend i hadn't talked to in a while, and after hearing about greg's engagement, sweeny's marriage, and justin's soon-to-be engagement, she asked me how i was dealing with the disappearance of the three most important men in my life. "you know, because once a guy gets married, he can't be cultivating intimate friendships with other women..." and that's true, and i agree, and i wonder what's going to fill all of these empty holes. walking back from the farthest dining hall on campus it started to rain. i was going to make the best of it. i smiled. a chill wind froze the drops on my arms. i lifted my face to the sky, and a huge drop smacked right on the inside corner of my left eye. enough. i ran the rest of the way back home, where i worked on my comm tech frontpage assignment for eight hours, during which my computer shuddered, shut down, flashed the blue screen of death, performed "illegal operations", experienced system failure, and shut down again. and again. needing some calming music, i put on the cd i just burned. my screen froze, lights flashed, and it spit my cd back out. as a last attempt, i turned on my old on-the-fritz stereo. toploader just doesn't sound the same when you only hear every other three-second increment of music. i envisioned beating the piece of crap, a la the copier in officespace. needing a break, i searched fruitlessly for the remote control, and then called sun gin for my favorite chinese delivery - chicken and snowpeas. sun gin was out of snowpeas. i lay on the floor for a few moments while jen ordered me something else. my computer offered a cough from the desk. i gave it a dirty look. it shut down. it is now after midnight, and the project is just barely finished. i'm fairly certain that my computer is, even at this moment, plotting against me. earlier i was thinking through some situations; at this point, i'm just trying to make it to bed before something blows up. not that the fire would get too far with all this rain.
