i have this friend that i just found out is getting married soon. it's been kind of a crazy few years for her, but then, hasn't it for all of us? she's had this almost-fairy tale going on, a fairly elusive one that keeps ducking and reappearing again and then ducking back down. finally, though, things are coming around once more, and i am only mildly surprised at how emotional i am about it for her. i just love her, and i believe in her and something about her story showing itself again makes me feel alive. alive and relieved. for all the past fairy tales i've wanted to believe but couldn't, my heart is lately jumping out of my body.
then, i turn from her life to my own less dramatic but just as amazing story, and i am shocked once again at how right it all is.
even if this moment is all i get, it's enough. some people wait their whole lives and never get even one day like the hundreds i've had since i met Jesus...and since i started noticing life...and since i fell in love with david. i am 95 days from getting married, sitting cross-legged on my oriental rug again this evening, covered in twilight streaming through my window, and realizing that it may not get much better than this. ever.
i have loved a small but significant handful of people in the pair of decades i've spent on earth, and i've been sure that i'd never quite find it like i had it the first time. and yet, i have. and i am sure i am in the right place, in the right story, on the right page, watching the words fall and knowing that each one has been better than the last.
