early this morning, as the sun was just rising, april and i were already crouched behind her rental SUV with two screwdrivers. we deftly removed the license plate and transferred it to her old red ford, insurance-less, plate-less, and very flat-tired. as she pulled onto city ave, i followed close in my car, attempting to dissuade any early-morning cops from running her plates on a whim and finding they were licensed to a different car. and then, at the height of our covert opp, we learned all about car tires and how to fill them up at a gas station. i'm at panera now, ready to start a day of studying. she's waiting at home for the guy who is coming to look at, test drive, and hopefully purchace her old, previously flat-tired car.

i had a ridiculous amount of fun this morning, doing something just barely illegal and helping out a friend. it feels good to be invested in helping someone. it feels good to remember that everyone on earth needs a hand every now and then. it binds us together to remember that we can't always make it on our own.

God tells me that if my own Dad knows how to take care of me and give me good things, how much more does God know how to care for me? but i am reluctant to ask for help, and even more reluctant to expect that it will come. i don't believe in my own requests most of the time, and i ask for things as though they ought not to be given to me, because i ought not to be so needy and dependent. i'm sure God thinks that's ridiculous; if i can get so much joy out of helping a friend, how much more does He experience out of His creation crying out for His attention and help? i forget how much He loves me most of the time.
