i've been getting thinner. people have commented on it, either telling me i look great or tiptoeing around asking me if i have "a problem". a few people just asked me how i did it, i assume, for their own weight-loss quest. everyone seems to be trying to be thinner this time of year. funny, though, that i just seemed to misplace them. i lost them accidentally. with all the stress of my upcoming finals (dealt with largely by running), no time to cook elaborate meals, and an aversion to hand-washing all those pots and pans anyway, i find myself on a minimalist's diet of pre-bagged salad, canned soup, ramen noodles, and ice cream. david's taken it upon himself to remedy this by cooking me mountains of food when he comes to visit and freezing them in meal-sized portions for easy microwave access. this past weekend, he made this incredibly elaborate soup. i came home from school to find him in my apartment busily cooking, all four stove burners occupied, and the sink full of dishes. twenty chicken breasts, sauteed in something, ready to be shredded. corn, carrots, peas, onions, brown rice... i didn't have enough tupperware to hold it all, so we ended up dividing it into a dozen ziplock baggies and tossing them into the freezer individually. delicious, homecooked soup, enough for every meal for two weeks. but inevitably, no matter how good that soup is (and it IS), i just can't eat it for three meals a day. i get bored.
i think that my time spent with God is much the same way. if i always do the same thing, always the same amount of time, always ask for the same things, even use the same words...my mental tastebuds shut down out of boredom, no matter how good He is or how much nourishment i'm actually getting. and then maybe i don't enjoy it so much, and maybe i end up losing some spiritual weight, misplacing faith out of stress and not wanting to do the dishes.
maybe it's time to find something new to eat.
