hope is the feeling you have that the feeling you have isn't permanent (jean kerr)....hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense regardless of how it turns out (vaclav havel)....now, Lord, what do i look for? my hope is in you (ps39:7).

"...by the way, I saw Matt Forsythe (your Sweeny) last weekend at his homecoming party. He looks great and is married. I saw later as Katie opened a yearbook that you were his best friend in high school. I thought you would want to know. If you want his address or anything, let me know. His wife's name is Liria and they live in California..." written to me in an email, from someone that knows both of us casually. written as though i were a stranger. i guess maybe i am, these latter days. it's strange to be less than a casual acquaintance in his life. everyone's been telling me all about him, all about his coming home, his new wife, his life now. i know it all through the grapevine, and i have to keep reminding myself not to be upset about that. i keep beating myself up for caring. but some changes are hard to get used to, even when the reasons why don't make sense. something about these big changes in my life makes me that much more sensitive to the little things that didn't have to change, but went ahead and changed anyway.
